Need a Change? You Can Work from Croatia for Up to a Year
If you’re working remotely for the foreseeable future and are itching for a change in scenery, a year-long trip to Croatia might be just the ticket to quell your wanderlust. The central European country just announced that it’s expanding its digital nomad program and inviting travelers from outside the European Union to come stay and work for up to a year on a residence permit. As per the terms of the program, visitors are invited to apply for a temporary stay in Croatia as long as they’re employed by a non-Croatian company, with close family members of the applicant invited to join, too. You’ll need to check specific visa requirements, along with a copy of your valid travel document (like a passport), proof of health insurance, and documents confirming your work arrangements and employment status. You’ll also need to submit a bank statement or proof of regular income, along with having a minimum of HRK 28,800 (roughly $4,577.75) available in your account for a period of 12 months. Those without a criminal record in their home country are encouraged to apply, and you’ll need to provide a temporary address (at the hotel or home you’ll be staying) to authorities prior to entering the country. Along with gorgeous coastline views and mild Mediterranean winters (and enviably warm and sunny summers), there’s no shortage of things to do and see thanks to the 1,000+ islands located along the country’s eastern coast. Historic museums, buildings, and fortresses are joined by unbeatable beaches, waterfalls, and lakes, with those up for a little adventure sure to enjoy the many inland hiking and biking trails, along with rock climbing, rafting, and zip-lining.
